James Jean: In Another World

James Jean: In Another World

Drowning in color.

James Jean is a Taiwanese award winning artist, who studied in The School of Visual Arts in New York. He is our global artist pick for this month's archives, and was suggested to us by Yousef Sabry.

Jean's work is comprised mainly of ink on paper with digital manipulations, and some charcoal on paper work too. He is known in the American comics industry as a cover artist for various books published by DC Comics, as well as for his work for Prada and Atlantic Records

His work has often been compared to that of illustrator Maxfield Parrish, whose pieces convey a sense of magic realism and romanticism reminiscent of early Renaissance art.

To master magical realism, one must make the real seem unreal but, more importantly, make the unreal seem real.
